Introduction to Live Role #

What is Live Role? #

Live Role lets you promote streamers in your server in two ways:

• An automatic role that gets added when someone streams on Twitch or YouTube. Streamcord detects their purple "streaming" status and adds the configured role when they begin their stream. When they lose the streaming status, Streamcord removes the live role.
• Notifications when someone receives the live role. This is a lighter-weight alternative to per-streamer notifications — you set a template message and a channel, and Streamcord posts whenever any qualifying member goes live. There's no streamer limit for Live Role Notifications, in exchange for less per-streamer customization. Learn more about Live Role Notifications

Filter Rules #

Live Role uses filter rules to control who receives the live role. Each rule has a type and a value, and you can configure up to 3 rules per Live Role. Available rule types include:

• Member must have role — only members with the chosen role qualify for the live role.
• Member must not have role (Pro) — members with the chosen role are blocked from receiving it.
• Game must contain keyword — only streams whose game matches the keyword qualify.
• Game must not contain keyword (Pro) — streams whose game matches the keyword are blocked.
• Stream title must contain keyword (Pro) — only streams whose title matches the keyword qualify.
• Stream title must not contain keyword (Pro) — streams whose title matches the keyword are blocked.

This replaces the older "filter role" concept, which only supported a single role-based whitelist. With v3, you can mix role-based and keyword-based rules to restrict the live role to subscribers, team members, certain games, or any combination.

How many Live Roles can I set up? #

Streamcord Pro users can set up to 5 Live Role configurations per server, and users on the free tier can set 1. Each configuration has its own live role, filter rules, allowed platforms, and Live Role Notifications settings.

Limitations #

Streamcord does not contact Twitch or YouTube directly to check whether you're streaming. Instead, Streamcord watches your Discord profile for the purple "streaming" status. To receive that status, you'll need to link your Twitch account to Discord and enable Streamer Mode when you go live.

Limitations for New Streamers #

Because of a recent change on Discord's end, non-affiliated Twitch users may no longer receive live roles when streaming, as your Discord account might not display the purple "streaming" status. If your linked Twitch channel is an affiliate or partner, this won't affect you, and Live Role will still continue to work as normal.
